James, I reckon the KT-7300 would be as good as my TX-9500 so you wont be disappointed. Probably not up to the pace of the Naim but still very good. As with all good tuna's, feed it the fat and it sounds great.

Cheers Craig, I'm looking forward to getting it. I just hope the dude was describing it accurately with respect to it's performance. I'll tidy it up and may be re-cap the power supply etc. How's your beast going? I bet it sounds excellent. Are you going to do the cap and any mods?

Hey James, the Pioneer sounds great as it is so I won't oil it until it squeaks. Plenty of mods for these old tuners though. I quite like the relaxed way it plays music. It just flows really well without highlighting any particular frequencies. Very smooth.

Got my cougar from Wellington. Boy for an old girl she's a babe! She also sings with a big sweet voice. I'm very impressed. I can see why there is a strong following for these super tuners of the past.

In comparison to my ex NAT05 which is the only high end tuner I've owned,

Three dimensional imaging is equal to the NAT.
Image magnitude is massive with lots of air, equal to the NAT.
Tonal balance is definitely on the warm side (1970's style but not overly veiled), where the NAT05 was very neutral like a good CD on a good player.
Clarity of the sound stage is slightly veiled like cigar smoke loitering in a room, the NAT had zero veiling and was crystal clear. (I put this down to the carbon volume pot that the signal has to pass through and older technology caps resisters, decoder, circuit, etc).
Bass is incredible (more powerful than the '05'), very solid tight notes, Midrange is reasonably truthful but very engaging and highs are convincing but slightly rolled off compared to a awesome NAT05 which was solid throughout the entire frequency range.

All and all I'm very impressed with it. The build quality is amazing, 8kgs, solid aluminium switches and knobs, the meters are cool and make it easy to find the centre of the signal as the signal meter moves in then out of the band range. This is a keeper that's for sure.

Weehaaa! Nice James, real nice! I'm stoked you are happy with it. Your description pretty much matches my impressions of the Pioneer. I sort of sum it up as "totally beguiling" . Hits me in all the right spots.
