Parmenter Sound Amps Under Construction

I had a chat earlier today with Jason Parmenter, of Parmenter Sound and it looks like he’s the latest in a long line of Kiwi amplifier builders. He’s got a new valve amp project on the go – covering monoblock power amps and a matching preamp.

The 40 W GM70 monos will use drilled and laser cut pure copper upper and lower plates in a hard wood chassis, which will be finished by a custom guitar/violin wood working shop. Weight will be in the region of 38-40kgs per mono.

For tech heads, the design includes the following touches:

- 6C45Pi interstage coupling to 2A3 interstage coupling to GM-70 output transformer.

- 2A3 and GM-70 will use MiX Bias topology (half auto/half manual) with bias meters in front.

- All interstages, output transformers, DC chokes and power transformers will be potted in black casings and use SILK winding technology and material.

- The thick flat OFC copper ¾” bus ground can carry over 300 Amps.

- Silver solder on all joints

The transformers are almost wound, so we expect to be able to hear the new amps in 4-6 weeks. RRP is still TBC

  1. Hi Ash
Thanks for posting news on my new valve amplifier project.
I will let you know as soon as they are finished and ready for you to come out for a music session.
    Cheers Jason.

    Amplifiers.
Parmenter GM-70 valve Mono block amplifiers & Transformer valve interstage coupled line stage.

    -Design:
    - 6C45Pi interstage coupling to 2A3 interstage coupling to GM-70 valve, output transformer (two interstage and no coupling cap in signal path driver stage valve rectified).

    - 2A3 and GM-70 will use MiX Bias topology (half auto/half manual) and Bias meters in front.

    - Pure Copper plate (top/bottom), cut/drill laser CNC for precision.

    - All interstages, output transformers, DC choke, power transformer will be potted in black casing and use the best SILK winding technology and material.

    - Thick flat OFC copper 3/4″ bus ground ! can carry +300Amp so no ground loop possible.

    - Silver solder on all joints

    - Output to 40W RMS/ monoblock

    - 230Vac/50Hz

    - WBT NextgenII binding post, CMC RCA connector, Teflon valve sockets.

    - Makah Hard wood chassis, I will work with a custom guitar/violin wood working shop. They offer the best wood and finishing.

Weight 38-40 Kg`s each mono block.

The preamplifier uses Transformer volume controls to a active transformer driven valve line stage with valve rectified power supply and transformer output stage.
The preamplifier offer true balanced input and output (600 ohms output stage) plus single ended as well.
All copper chassis to match the mono blocks on the same size chassis as one of the mono blocks.
