CAMBRIDGE AUDIO HAS launched a new range of speakers, which have apparently been built from the ground up, with custom-designed drivers and hand-picked components. Most punters will think of Cambridge Audio as a stereo component manufactuer but speakers are nothing new for the company – the budget S30 is probably the biggest-selling Cambridge Audio product of all time.
Following Cambridge Audio’s “Sound First” principles, the designers have turned their focus onto delivering audio quality, not hype and features. That means no flash materials unless they make a difference to sound, and high-quality, custom components including new drivers with treated paper cones and high power, efficient magnets. The SX cabinets have been modelled using CAD so that the speaker dimensions minimise standing waves.
There are two stand-mounted speakers in the range plus a subwoofer. Specifications are:
