June 21, 2014

Joe-Satriani-dezvaluie-coperta-noului-albumKING OF GUITAR shred Joe Satriani returns to New Zealand for two dates this November.

Stopping off in Auckland and Wellington on his so-called Unstoppable Momentum Tour – named after his latest album – the technically splendiferous guitarist will be bringing a backing band worth hearing in their own right:

* Guitarist Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Steve Vai)

* Bassist Bryan Beller (Dethklok, Dweezil Zappa)

* Drummer Marco Minneman (Adrian Belew, Steven Wilson)

Joe Satriani began his musical life as a guitar teacher, tweaking and encouraging the skills of the likes of Kirk Hammet (Metallica), Larry LaLonde (Primus), David Bryson (Counting Crows) and even Steve Vai.

IMG_1311His breakthrough was the album Surfing With The Alien (1987), the first instrumental guitar album to break into the US Top 40. He has repeatedly been voted ‘best guitarist’ in leading guitar magazines and readers’ polls. This master of modern rock guitar has sold more than 10 million albums, and received 14 Grammy nominations.

Satriani’s previous visit to NZ was as one-third of the guitar-heaven supergroup G3 in 2012.

Tickets go on sale on midday Friday June 27 for his two NZ dates:

ASB Theatre, Auckland, Saturday November 1

Opera House, Wellington, Sunday November 2
