Sony Announces Four New EXTRA BASS Portable Wireless Speakers

May 3, 2017

Sony has released four new portable wireless speakers from its EXTRA BASS series. This series is unapologetically designed to suit bass-loving buyers.

As the Sony press release states, the speakers are: โ€œMade for todayโ€™s heavy-hitting musical bass lines, EXTRA BASS technology delivers powerful, clear bass sound where itโ€™s hard to find โ€“ in a compact, portable speaker. The result is a full, deep, resonating sound with synchronised flashing lights perfect for a night of EDM, hip-hop or your favourite music genre.โ€ They even feature IPX5 rated water-resistant designs to help protect them against water damage.

So itโ€™s all about big bass, flashing lights, small size thatโ€™s okay at a pool party, got it?

The SRS-XB40 features club-like lighting effects with an LED perimeter line-light, a strobe flash and speaker light. The line-light creates multicolour patterns, ranging from pure white to rainbow. Synchronising with the beat, the power and speed of the light display matches the musicโ€™s mood and atmosphere. The SRS-XB30 has a similar multicolour line-light and strobe, and the SRS-XB20 features a single colour line-light which compliments the speaker colour.

Using the wireless party chain function, multiple speakers can be connected to each other to enable users to enjoy a performance featuring synchronised lights. A mix of up to 10 units can be interconnected via Bluetooth without requiring an app. It is also possible to pair two speakers (albeit of the same model) together to enjoy stereo sound.

All four models offer multi-device connectivity, meaning that more than one smartphone can be connected at the same time, enabling the user to quickly switch between music sources. With the SRS-XB40 and SRS-XB30, it is also possible to recharge a smartphone by connecting it to the USB-A port on these devices via a USB cable, which enables the speaker to be used like a portable battery when the user’s smartphone battery is running low on power. Plus, all four models can be used as speakerphones when paired with a smartphone.
